Frequently Asked Questions
Q: Who may become a foster parent?
Q: What are the requirements to become a foster parent?
Certification Classes from Wyoming (DFS) which include:
Q: What are the ages of the children?
Q: Do I have to accept any foster child that they ask me to take?
No. DFS will call with the age of a child(ren) that are needing a home. You decide then if you are willing to take them in. You may also specify if you only want to care for a specific age group.
Q: Is there a foster-to-adopt program in our state?
Not necessarily. The main goal of DFS is to reunify the child with the parent. The biological parent is usually given a plan of action to follow. At the time that a parent is unable to care for their child(ren), the court will decide whether to terminate the parental rights. If parental rights are terminated and if it is a good match, the foster family may have the opportunity to adopt the child(ren). There are children that have been adopted through the foster care system, however, there is no guarantee and DFS will advise you not to enter into foster care for the sole purpose of adopting.
