FOSTER CARE
The Wyoming Department of Family Services (DFS) Foster Care is a program that places a child in the care of the foster parents when they have been removed from their biological home. There are many reasons why children are removed from their biological home, including abuse and neglect. Children may be in the foster home for as little as a week or for many months. The main goal of foster care is to reunify the child(ren) with their parent(s).
HOW CAN YOU HELP?
Open your home to a foster child
We consider it a tremendous privilege to share the love of God with children in foster care. These precious, hurting children need loving families to provide a safe and nurturing home for them while their parent(s) work to make better choices in their own lives.
Become respite care providers
Many foster families have out-of-town activities, family emergencies or for other reasons cannot care for their foster child(ren) for a day or weekend. Certified respite care providers can step into the role of caregiver for this time.
Pray for foster children
Provide material goods for DFS or families who have foster
children There are many items a family needs for a child when they come into care. Many children come out of their homes with nothing. A family that takes in a foster child may need a crib, a bed, a stockpile of diapers or formula, pajamas or a few outfits to get them through a week. DFS also has a clothes closet where you can donate items if you don't know a family that is in need. DFS also needs someone to organize that closet once a month.
